The vehicles involved in the head on collision near the St Jacinto Island along the highway on Tuesday afternoon.
VASCO:
Two persons were injured following a head-on collision between an ambulance and a car near St Jacinto Island along the national highway at Dabolim on Tuesday afternoon.
Sources said the accident occurred as the ambulance was heading towards Panaji while the Baleno was travelling towards Vasco.
The impact was severe, causing both airbags in the Baleno to deploy. Despite this, the car’s driver sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to GMC Bambolim for treatment.
The front portion of the car was completely mangled, and the ambulance also sustained significant damage in the crash, which brought traffic on the busy highway to a standstill.
Fortunately, there was no patient in the ambulance at the time of the incident.
Traffic police arrived shortly after to manage the situation and restore the flow of vehicles. Both drivers were reported to be out of danger but are currently undergoing treatment.
Personnel from the Vasco fire department later cleared the road of broken glass and debris resulting from the accident.
