SANGUEM
Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) Councillors Fouziya Shaikh and Messiah Dcosta (Meshu) have requested the SMC chief officer to conduct monthly meetings of the council in the meeting hall and not in the Chairperson’s cabin. The councillors handed over a memorandum to the chief officer on Friday requesting for necessary amends in the conduct of the monthly meetings.
In their memorandum, the two councillors stated that people from Sanguem need to know what their elected representatives are doing and what issues are taken up by them at the monthly meetings. Under the Municipalities Act, the people have every right to attend the monthly meetings and witness the proceedings, the councillors stated in their memorandum.
As the proceedings are presently held inside the Chairperson’s cabin, people cannot attend the meetings and as such, they have appealed to the chief officer to conduct the proceedings in the meeting hall from the next month.
