The demolition squad accompanied by a posse of policemen and officials of Raia panchayat and Salcete Block Development Office descended at Manora on Wednesday morning and carried out the demolition. Last time round, the demolition of the two illegal structures had to be called off after the PWD labourers played truant.
Salcete BDO M Parwar told the media at the site that the BDO office has requisitioned the demolition squad following a petition made by the Raia panchayat. “Both the illegal structures have been razed down in today’s operation,” Parwar said.
A villager and complainant Anthony Fernandes told the media that the local residents are happy that the demolition squad has finally demolished the two illegal structures. He thanked officials of the demolition squad, BDO and the panchayat secretary for carrying out the demolition though it has come after two years.
