VASCO
In a tragic incident, two women including a pregnant lady were killed
in a LPG cylinder explosion at New Vaddem, Vasco on Saturday.
According to information, Shivani Rajawat (26) and her mother Jaidevi (50) died in the cylinder blast reported at their rented flat near Rashtroli Jai Santoshi Mata temple, New Vaddem.
Disclosing details of the incident, Ward councillor Sudesh Bhosle said the incident occurred at around 8.45 am. "There was a loud sound in the flat and the window panes and other items were shattered”, he said.
Shivani was four-and-half months pregnant and was staying with her mother Jaidevi and her husband Anurag at New Vaddem.
Shivani's husband works in the Navy and was not at home at the time of the incident. Sources said the women were supposed to leave for their native place in Gwalior later in the day.
Disclosing more details of the incident, PSI Swapnil Naik of Vasco police station said they got a call about the blast initially but were later informed of the two deaths.
"When we reached the spot both the women were lying dead in the kitchen. The windows of the kitchen, bedroom and all the doors were closed. We feel that the cylinder may have been accidentally left open at night and the blast may occurred after one of them tried to light the gas in the morning”, he said.
“We could still smell the gas in the flat and this could be one of the reasons for the blast. The husband works for the Navy and was not at home and had just returned from work", Naik said.
Meanwhile, sources said a milk packet and a lighter were found near the gas stove.
The bodies were shifted to Chicalim Sub District Hospital and after inquest panchanama, were sent to South District Hospital for post mortem.
Vasco police is carrying out further investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
