Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Friday submitted before the government the Goa Lokayukta Bill, 2021 to mark the completion of three years of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government. Kamat said that the bill will empower the office of Goa Lokayukta and expressed the hope that the BJP government will pass it during the upcoming session of Goa Assembly.
“The insensitive approach of the BJP government has resulted in gross irregularities and mass corruption in the State of Goa. This government has a rare honour of getting a ‘certificate of corruption’ from the Goa Lokayukta in almost 21 cases,” Kamat said.
The Leader of Opposition offered a detailed account of the mismanagement of resources and the failure of this government in adopting timely preventive actions to control spread of coronavirus since the onset of the pandemic which has resulted in the death of over 800 people including a former health minister, a former MLA and several councillors among other prominent citizens.
“In these three years, the insensitive BJP government has aggressively pursued its agenda of handing over Goa to its ‘crony club’. It has tried to suppress the voice of the people on issues like Mhadei, three linear projects, Coastal Zone Management Plan, Nauxi marina project and the IIT at Shel Melauli,” Kamat listed.
Kamat accused the BJP of grabbing power from the back door and using the state machinery to destroy each and every independent institution.
“This government is actually run by a ‘super power’ and has contradicted its own CM on many occasions and even before the High Court. In its third year now, the BJP government wants to demolish the precedence of respecting the Model Election Code of Conduct by passing the budget in the coming Assembly session when the Municipal Election Code will be in force,’ said the Leader of Opposition.
