The state’s water shortage problems will soon be resolved, said PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar adding that the government was taking concrete steps to ensure all constituencies get 24/7 water supply as assured by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Speaking to the media at the Secretariat, Dhavalikar said, the 700 Million Litres per Day (MLD) produced in North and South Goa was sufficient for Goa’s population, including industrial use, and  added that shortages were faced only because Goa hosts tourists equivalent to its resident population.

Water wastage was another factor that contributed

to scarcity, since the state government was supplying more than what was directed by the central government, with 110-200 litres per person per day being provided to

rural areas, and 125-225 litres per person per day in urban areas.

Dhavalikar also said that the government was incurring a loss of Rs 9.50 per cubic meter in order to give Goans water at a lower cost, as the government spends Rs 12 per cubic meter of water.
