The death of a 24-year-old woman from Curchorem among the three Covid-19 deaths on Saturday has evoked concern among the medical fraternity at the core of Goa’s medical response to the pandemic.

The woman died while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) as did the two other deaths reported on Saturday -- a 76-year-old man from Assagao and a 55-year-old man from Sindhudurg in neighbouring Maharashtra.

With the three deaths counted on Saturday, Goa’s collective pandemic toll has touched 3,342. Saturday is the second consecutive day that Goa has reported high number of deaths after four were reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 52 of the 4,188 samples tested in the last 24-hour period have been reported positive for the novel coronavirus dipping the positivity rate slightly to 1.2 per cent.

There were 87 recoveries and Goa now has 610 active Covid patients.
