25 illegal structures on Tivim comunidade land to face the axe

Notices issued in two phases; demolition likely after March 11

MAPUSA
The Administrator of Comunidade, North, Pandurang Gad, has issued demolition notices for 25 illegal houses and structures at ‘Lala ki Basti’ in Auchit-Vaddo, Tivim.

The demolition is scheduled to take place any day after March 11.

The notices, issued in two phases “ initially to 12 houses and later to 13 more “ were pasted on individual structures, directing occupants to vacate before the deadline.

“The demolition of illegal structures erected by you in Survey No. 343/14 and/or 343/12, belonging to the Comunidade of Tivim, will be carried out any day, any time after March 11 if not removed,” the notice read.

‘Lala ki Basti’ has long been a contentious issue due to the unauthorised constructions, allegedly built with the tacit support of local comunidade members and politicians.

Despite legal challenges, the occupants failed to secure a stay on the demolition, with the High Court of Bombay at Goa last year clearing the removal of the 25 structures.

The Revolutionary Goans Party has been at the forefront of the campaign against these illegal structures, pushing for their removal and stricter enforcement of land regulations in the area.

With the deadline now set, all eyes are on the authorities as they move forward with the long-awaited demolition.
