Conceding that lot needs to be done at the South Goa district hospital, commissioned three years ago, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday said the government will not be able to mete out justice to the people of South Goa unless medical facilities are made available at the hospital.
He, however, hastened to add that the South Goa district hospital is a priority area for him, promising to augment the facilities in the next 2-3 months. “There was no Intensive Care Unit at the South Goa district hospital, but the government has now set up a full-fledged ICU facility. More doctors will come at the district hospital. We will be able to give justice to the people only when the facilities are made available,” he said, after launching Pancha Karma centre at the district hospital.
In fact, Rane underscored the need to make the district hospitals at North and South Goa centres of excellence with full-fledged Pancha Karma centres.
Saying the Goa health department is taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision on the health sector, Rane said every effort is being made in the State to integrate the Indian system of medicine in the health sector.
Strongly rooting for two full-fledged Pancha Karma centres at the North and South district hospitals, Rane requested South district hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajendra Borkar to provide better space for the Pancha Karma centre. “The centre is presently housed in the basement. See that the system of medicine gets a better space at the space allotted for the nursing college. The centre will also get the manpower in the coming days,” he said.
Issuing further instructions to post consultants at the Pancha Karma centre within 48 hours, the health Minister said he would again visit the South district hospital in the coming days to do a reality check.
The purpose of the Pancha Karma centre at the South district hospital is to provide free of cost and quality ayurvedic procedures to the patients and to integrate ayush mental healthcare as wellness.
Hospicio Medical Superintended Dr Rajendra Borkar informed that the state-of-the-art pancha Karma centre at the hospital is conducting around 30 procedures a day.
