PORVORIM
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has said the PWD will construct an underground reservoir of 3 MLD capacity at Nerul so that water can be stored and supplied to residents of Nerul, to address the water scarcity in the area.
He was speaking at Verem after launching the work to lay a new 2-km-long water pipeline from Verem to Nerul in the presence of Reis Magos Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar, Nerul Sarpanch Rajesh Calangutkar, Zilla Parishad member Sandeep Bandodkar and panch members.
Kedar Naik said this new water pipeline is being laid by PWD at a cost of Rs 90 lakh.
“The PWD will have to dig roads to lay the water pipeline. Once the work to lay the 2-km-long pipeline is completed, this road will be hotmixed. Till then, residents will have face some inconvenience,” said Naik.
“Residents of Nerul being at tail end have been facing acute water shortage and presently get water every alternate day. The existing pipeline is connected to the Verem underground reservoir of 2 MLD capacity. So, the PWD has decided to construct a separate 3 MLD underground reservoir at Nerul through which water can be supplied to the residents.”
“Barely ten days ago, the PWD began laying a separate water pipeline from PDA colony in Porvorim to Verem. This work is nearing completion. Once both these projects are completed, water scarcity problems will be resolved in Reis Magos and Nerul,” said Naik.
Zillah Parishad member Sandeep Bandodkar and Nerul Sarpanch Rajesh Calangutkar also spoke on the occasion.
