Uzwaad, a Konkani magazine which originated in Belagavi in 1998 and the only Konkani magazine published from south Maharashtra and north Karnataka, will mark its 25th anniversary with Uzwaad Rupya Mahahotsav at St Xavier’s High School Hall, Belagavi, on January 15.
The occasion includes the Konkani Lokotsava, release of the Uzwaad Silver Festival issue, Uzwaad Gaurav awards distribution, a Konkani humorist meeting, and Loknad performances by specially-invited artists from Goa, Konkani activist Louis Rodrigues said.
Distinguished personalities who will grace the event include Goa’s Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, Bishop of Karwar Derek Fernandes, Dr Prabhakar Kore, Ivan D’Souza, Feroz Seth, Raju Seth, Hema Nayak, George Fernandes, and Dr Bhushan Bhave.
As many as 14 Konkani-speaking personalities who have achieved excellence in different fields and have rendered yeoman services in the society will be honoured with the Uzwaad Konkani Gourav Award on the occasion.
Uzwaad, recognized as the first Konkani magazine in South Maharashtra and North Karnataka, initiated its journey in Belagavi. The editorial team comprising Girgol Rodrigues, Alphie Monteiro, Louis Rodrigues, Minin Gonsalves, Shimav Fernandes along with a dedicated team, have played a pivotal role in elevating the readership of the magazine, turning it into a cultural cornerstone over the past 25 years.
