Officials seized 33 domestic cylinders from a dealer in Porvorim, during a raid on a truck outside the dealer’s depot at Paithona. The team also recovered equipment from the truck which was used to transfer the gas from from domestic cylinders to empty cylinders.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Controller of Legal Materiology Packaging commodity AN Panchwadkar.
“Through reliable sources, we received information that underweight domestic cylinders were also being sold in Porvorim,” he said.
“We started weighing each and every cylinder from the truck and 33 of the 51 cylinders were found to contain gas beyond permissible limit error.”
“The net weight of the domestic gas cylinder excluding tare weight should be 14.2 kgs. However, on weighing the cylinders, we observed that there was a shortage of 1 kg to 2.5 kgs gas in the cylinders. There cannot be so much of a difference/shortage in the domestic cylinders filled at the company factory. The permissible limit is 150 gms. The shortage of more than 1 kg indicates that gas was removed from the cylinders,” he added.
