A third crocodile has been found dead in the Bailpar river at Kasarwarne-Pernem within a week.
According to forest officials, one crocodile was found dead on Friday while two others had met with a similar fate about four days ago.
"The forest department conducted the panchanama and have sent the body for autopsy. The cause of death is unclear at this point in time,” said a forest department officer.
"No one had notified us the last time when two crocodiles were found dead," he claimed.
Currently, the irrigation department is setting up two pump houses on the banks of Bailpar river and that has cause high turbidity in the water.
"We had cautioned officials earlier that fish and crocodiles could perish due to the severe water turbidity. Two crocodiles which died about four days ago had been swept away due to high tide," said a local Baburav Gaad.
