Three persons, including two minors, were rescued, while one person was stranded in a car, after a large tree came crashing down on the vehicle at the old bus station in Bicholim on Sunday night.
According to reports, four persons “ two adults and two children “ were in the car when the incident took place. The car was parked when a large mango tree came crashing down on the vehicle. Onlookers rushed to their aid but were unable to pull them out.
Teams from the Bicholim fire station and Bicholim police rushed to the site. Three JCB machines were also pressed into service as efforts were made to remove the fallen tree. A man and two children were later pulled out of the vehicle and were shifted to a hospital, while a woman was still stranded in the car until late Sunday night. Mayem MLA Premendra Shet and Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye also rushed to the spot. A huge crowd gathered at the site as rescue operations were underway to free the trapped woman.
