Close on the heels of Cumbarjua panchayat prohibiting the sale of mutton, chicken, fish and alcohol in the village on January 22 on the occasion of inauguration of Ram Temple at Ayodhya, four other panchayats also issued a notice banning the sale of the above items in their jurisdiction.
The panchayats of Tivrem-Orgao and Betqui-Khandola have banned the sale of non-vegetarian items and alcohol within their jurisdictions on Monday, the day of the consecration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
In a similar notice issued by both the panchayats, wine shop owners, bar owners, fish vendors, chicken centres, mutton centres, Chinese stalls/fast food owners have been directed to keep their shops closed on January 22
The notice further states that strict action would be taken against those disobeying the directives.
“You all are hereby requested to kindly keep your shops closed on 22/01/2024 and give your best presence in the celebration of Ram Mandir and do cooperate with the village panchayat. And if any of the owners found not obeying orders then strict action will be taken against him,” the notice issued by both Tivrem and Candola panchayats reads.
In Assonora and Pirna too, the panchayats have issued similar notices directing all shops and establishments dealing with alcohol and meats to be closed on Monday to commemorate Ram Lalla’s Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya on January 22.
Both panchayats have issued circulars directing all bars/pubs, fish sellers, chicken centres, mutton centres, Chinese stalls and fast food vendors to close their establishments.
A circular also warns that strict action will be taken against those violating this order.
It may be recalled that The Goan on Friday had reported that the Cumbarjua panchayat had banned the sale of mutton, chicken, fish and alcohol within its jurisdiction, and urged for cooperation with the owners of such businesses.
Sarpanch Nandakumar Shet had said the ban on sale of non-vegetarian as well as alcohol would be effective in the village for the entire day of January 22 due to the celebration of Shree Ram Utsav.
