Of the 12,000 odd delegates who signed up for the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), 10,200 delegates collected their cards and were active participants in the festival, making the delegate turnout a 40% increase since the 49th IFFI held in 2018, CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Amit Satija IAS said at the closing ceremony of IFFI on Thursday.
Of these, 8,260 delegates booked tickets to watch films. 2,500 delegates booked two tickets everyday, and 1,065 delegates booked three tickets on a daily basis, taking the tally of tickets booked at IFFI 2019 to 93,586 tickets, Satija said, crediting the data collected to the online system of booking tickets introduced this year at IFFI.
Satija also said that from the foreign delegates who attended IFFI, maximum number of foreign delegates were from the UK, followed by the USA, Sri Lanka, and UAE. There were delegates from over 40 countries who participated in IFFI this year, he added.
From amongst Indian delegates, Satija said that Goa saw the highest participation followed by delegates from Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The IFFI saw more than 90 films make their Indian premiers, 11 films make their Asian premiers, and six films make their world premiers, Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Amit Khare IAS said. 24 films submitted to the Academy Awards were also screened at the 50th IFFI.
During his speech, Khare announced that next year, IFFI 2020 would see the centenary celebrations of Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
