Films have far reaching impact on society the Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik said and bluntly appealed to filmmakers to expose the divide between the rich and poor so that feeling of charity develops in the richer class of the country.
“Film makers should highlight the rich-poor divide of our society in which there is poverty, struggle of poor people. Filmmakers should showcase the life of poor people and also portray attitude of politicians, and rich class people. Help the unemployed youths, farmers and with this the society will change”, Malik said in his speech during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India.
He said, in India there are still problems like poverty, unemployment and thousands of youth roaming in search of daily bread and butter.
“There are rich people in India who have 14-floor homes of which one floor is only for dogs but these people don’t do charity of even a single paisa”, Malik said.
While highlighting the non-caring attitude of rich class of people Governor said: “When martyred soldiers body comes to the district the whole section of society comes there. But it is bitter truth that the not a single rupee charity is done by the rich person for Martyred soldiers relatives or any other event”.
He came down heavily on the ‘insensitive’ rich class saying: “I believe that the rich persons from our country are like bag of rotten potatoes who give no money towards charity. Film makers should target this section of society.”
While comparing Indian rich class with philanthropic rich of other countries, he said rich people from the world like Lord Gildoff give a big share of their income to charity but Indian rich don’t.
He said that the film medium has a huge impact which is lacking in books or any other medium.
