5 tourists held for assault at Baga

Calangute Police arrested five tourists from Mysore on charges of assaulting shack workers at Baga beach on Monday.

According to Calangute Police, shack owner Diago Monteiro complained that the accused tourists Anand Nayak (24), Anand Rama R (24), Punit Das Prakash (23), Swami Sonamshraddha Rajiv (24) and Manu Nair (24) entered his shack for lunch.   
The police said after having their lunch, the accused tourists were sitting on the beds at the beach when a shack worker requested them to move from the beds, as he wanted to remove the beds. However, the accused refused to move from the beds and allegedly started to assault the worker.   
The police added that the shack worker raised an alarm and soon other workers rushed to his rescue, but the shack workers were allegedly beaten up by the accused tourists with beer bottles, aluminium and iron rods.   
Calangute PSI Girish Padloskar is investigating the case.
