Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who is also representing the tourist taxi owners pointed to Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar’s as not being interested in solving their issues.
While Parulekar has not attended any meeting that were called to discuss their issue, Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar was absent for Monday’s meeting.
Also joining Lobo in pointing fingers at the two ministers was Benaulim MLA Caitano Silva who also called for a crackdown on illegal rent a cab operators. “First crack down on the illegal rent a cab operators and then think of regularizing their business,” he said.
Speaking to media, North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association (NGTTOA) general secretary Vinayak Nanoskar said the government had planned on implementing digital meters in the state from August 1, but have now deferred it by three months.
“One of our demands was for the rates from specific points to be fixed and displayed at prominent locations, but this isn’t being done. Instead they wanted us to start installing digital meters in our vehicles from August 1.”
But after the meeting, it was decided to hold it off for another three months. Our demand have always been to crack down on the illegal rent a cab operators,” he said.
The MLAs also took a decision to present a report to the government on the issue within the next three days.
