GOACAN has strongly objected to a hoarding displayed near Gauri car petrol pump at Porvorim.
The hoarding shows a woman sitting next to a LPG cylinder and a gas stove under the heading 'Abki Baar Mahilaon Ko Khushiyan Apaar'.
Speaking to The Goan, GOACAN convenor Roland Martins said in the hoarding, the gas stove is shown kept on the ground below the cylinder, and near to it, a woman is also seated very close to the stove.
“This is a matter of great concern, as it is not in line with safety norms. In fact, it violates the LPG safety norms. A similar advertisement had appeared in a local English daily (not The Goan) on June 1,” said Martins.
He said these type of advertisements go against all the efforts of GOACAN and the consumer activists when they communicate to the consumers during LPG Safety Clinics and other programmes to avoid doing what has been shown in the advertisement.
“I have already written a letter to the Director, Directorate of Fire & Emergency Service, calling upon to take immediate steps with the government agencies concerned to withdraw the said advertisement in its present form and save thousands of women in India who will become victim to unnecessary fire-related accidents,” said Martins.
