QUEPEM
Fifty elders and prominent persons from Goa were felicitated at the Sports Complex in Quepem at a function organized by musician Rajesh Raja Ludhiana under the banner of “Vaddeyan da Satkar”.
Swami Satyananand Ji Maharaj of Shri Shirdi Sai Sakhti Dham of Ambala presided over the occasion and blessed all the elders.
The function was graced by Quepem MLA and Opposition Leader Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, former chief minister and Margao MLA Digamber Kamat, Ram Mahale and Nelly Rodrigues.
Among those elders felicitated included two dedicated doctors from Quepem, Dr Arun Sankav and Dr Milagres Fernandes who have been faithfully serving the public and a social worker Jose alias Josinho Colaco, who is actively involved in social work and social justice without financial support. As many as 23 functions have been conducted all over India and this was one of such event in Goa.
Rajesh Raja Ludhiana, a musician by profession, said he was stuck with the idea of felicitating elders all over India to create awareness among people that elders be treated with respect and honour as they are the backbone of a happy family and pillars of a strong society.
“I am pained to see that enrolment in old age homes keeps increasing day by day as educated people are sending their parents in old-aged homes. These educated people should not forget that someday they will become old and they might end up in the same situation.”
He said that joint families are real happy families and stressed that parents must teach family values to their children for a progressive and vibrant family and developed society.
