60-yr-old beggar found murdered at Vasco

Vasco Police on Thursday arrested a mentally unsound beggar on charges of murdering another 60-year-old beggar from Belagavi on the footpath near Vincent General Store, Vasco.  
According to Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo, they received information in the wee hours of Thursday stating that a person was lying in a pool of blood on the footpath near Vincent General Store, Vasco. Acting on the information, the police rushed to the site and found an elderly man, who was suspected to be assaulted with a concrete stone on his head. “The injured person, who was identified as Satish Yellapa Naik, was rushed to Chicalim Cottage Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead on arrival,” informed PI Raposo.
PI Raposo added that the service of dog squad, finger print experts and a team of South Goa Forensic Lab were pressed into service. “Based on a tip-off, we have taken into custody one Mohammad Salauddin, whose full name is not known, for involvement in the murder,” he informed.  
Raposo stated that the accused, Salauddin was found to be mentally unsound and was referred to IPHB Bambolim, after obtaining order from the JMFC Vasco.  
The body has been preserved for autopsy at the morgue at GMC Hospital in Bambolim and Vasco PSI Prashant Bhagat is investigating the case, informed PI Raposo.  
According to a witness, the deceased Satish and the accused Salauddin were always seen in the evenings, sleeping on the footpath near Vincent General Store, Vasco.
