Mickky told the media on Thursday that he and Viola have quit the regional party and their resignations have been sent to the party leaders. Though Mickky did not cite any reason behind his decision to quit the regional party, it is learnt that his defeat in the 2017 Assembly election from Nuvem constituency is the cause behind the decision of the husband-wife.
Mickky said he has no immediate plans to embrace any new party, but at the same time made it amply clear that he would continue his social work through his charitable institutions. “I began my social work under my charitable institutions even before I decided to contest the Assembly election in 2002. I have
decided to go back and continue my social work. My offices at Betalbatim, Nuvem and Loutolim will continue to function to serve the people,” he said.
Viola had joined the GSRP on December 12 last as the party president coinciding with Mickky’s birthday days after she had quit the post of president of the Goa Vikas Party. Mickky had followed suit in January last after he quit the membership of the Legislative Assembly.
