After the controversial Town and Country Planning Act amendment which gave powers to the Chief Town Planner (planning) to make "corrections" to "inadvertent errors" in RP-2021 zoning, six land parcels aggregating over 62,000 square meters in fast developing Morjim village have been "corrected" from orchard to settlement zone.

Chief Town Planner (Panning) Rajesh Naik, issued the notifications related to these "corrections" following requests by two entities owning this land.

Four separate parcels of land totally admeasuring 54,000-odd square meters in Morjim were corrected from orchard to settlement at the behest of Ms Gangareddy Infra Pvt Ltd, the notifications issued by Naik on Wednesday said.

The four parcels of Gangareddy Infra Pvt Ltd which are now zoned as settlement include -- 12,764 sq mts (Survey No. 245/8), 16,730 sq mts (survey no. 238/9), 7,479 sq mts (survey no. 238/10) and 17,569 sq mts (survey no. 245/1).

Two more parcels of land -- 4,337 sq mts (survey no. 245/4) and 3,486 sq mts (survey no. 245/5) -- were also "corrected" from orchard to settlement zone. The changes in these two plots were made at the behest of one Konidela Ramcharan Tej.

According to the notifications issued by Naik, in all these cases apart from the report supporting the 'correction' made by the TCP department, a separate report made by a registered professional, namely, Architect Sarvesh Prakash Naik also supports the applications and on the basis of which the State government authorized the changes.

The amendment empowering the CTP (Planning) to do the changes in the RP-2021 directly was enacted in the winter session of the Goa legislative assembly in January and came into force on March 2, after it being notified once it got assent of the Governor.

The amendment was invoked once before last month when Naik similarly made changes in a 1,770 square meter parcel of land in Anjuna.
