OLD GOA
The Santa Cruz panchayat has given PWD time till May 5 to repair the dug up roads in the village failing which the panchayat members and villagers have threatened to hit the streets in protest.
A notice to this effect has been sent by the Santa Cruz sarpanch Jennifer Oliveira to the PWD Executive Engineer in which she has pointed out that the panchayat is under tremendous pressure from the villagers over the precarious conditions of the dug roads.
Later, speaking to The Goan deputy sarpanch Domnic Pereira said that it was in December last year that the PWD started digging the roads for laying underground power cables.
“But, it’s been over five months now that the dug roads are yet to be repaired an it causes a lot of inconvenience to the people particularly in Bandh and Arradi where the roads are dug right in the middle,” Pereira stated.
“Also, the feast of the Santa Cruz church is going to be celebrated on May 7 and hence we have given the ultimatum to the PWD to repair the roads by May 5. If they fail to do so, then we will hit the streets along with the villagers in protest,” Pereira forewarned.
