8 held for running IPL betting racket, items worth Rs 18 lakh recovered

Colva Police nabbed eight people from Karnataka for running a betting scheme linked to the ongoing IPL cricket matches. Acting on a tip-off, they raided a rented place where the betting was happening.

Among those caught red-handed were Bhushan Pujari, Rishikesh Krishnaji Patil, Kapil Sawant, Omkar Pramod Patil, Afrid Hanif Nadumbil, Tohil Jamil Bidikar, Shubham Manohar Patil, and Sayed Ali Ramzan Bagwan all from Khanapur, Karnataka.

They were allegedly taking bets on an IPL match. The raid recovered mobile phones, betting gear, and a vehicle worth Rs 18 lakhs.

PI Satish Padwalkar, in charge of Colva police station, mentioned they’re investigating other betting groups in the area.

He noted that cricket betting is common during the IPL season, with groups from different states renting secluded places to avoid detection.
