Acknowledging the immense contribution of late former CM Manohar Parrikar towards the development of the State, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Tuesday said a project of relevance will be named after Manohar Parrikar in Parra, the village he came from.

He said that people, especially the youngsters, should remember Parrikar in the years to come as one of the finest leaders that the State has ever produced.

“This village of Parra will have some project named after Manohar Parrikar who was a visionary and a leader of par excellence. We will come up with a project in the education sector, maybe set up a library in the village where he was born,” Lobo said.

The Calangute MLA was addressing a gathering while paying tributes to former chief minister Manohar Parrikar on his birth anniversary at the Parra village panchayat.

Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo, Parra Sarpanch Chandanan (Chandu) Harmalkar, Deputy Sarpanch, Daniel Lobo, sarpanchas of other village panchayats and panchayat members were also present on the occasion.

Continuing, Lobo said the former CM was a man of action and therefore came up with several development projects in the State during his stint as the chief minister.

He said earlier governments in the State were only proposing works but Manohar Parrikar saw that works were not only proposed but also executed in a time-bound manner.

Lobo also revealed that Parrikar had a knack to select leaders and groom them to work for the welfare of the people of the State.

“I remember Manohar Parrikar calling me to his house in Mapusa and asking me to join the BJP and the rest was history. My wife was also handpicked by the former CM to work for the society,” he said.

“Our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was also handpicked by former CM Manohar Parrikar to lead the State,” he added.

He said henceforward the occasion of celebrating the former CM’s birthday should be made an annual event.
