“There’s more than what meets the eye,” inquiry officer Sandip Jacques said in his ‘fact finding report’ during a probe into the various allegations in Tiracol land deal.
What Jacques was probably referring to was this: An ‘agreement of sale’ between Leading Hotels (first party) and the legal heirs of one Piedade Sebastiana Rodrigues (second party) registered in the sub registrar at Pernem.
In his report, Jacques has cited the example of an agreement registered between the Leading Hotels Ltd and a group of residents, how the residents could have benefitted from the ‘offers’ made by Leading Hotels.
In the sale deed, the second party agrees to give full cooperation to the first party to facilitate the deletion of ‘erroneous entries’ from the tenant and cultivators column of survey records of the property while also undertaking not to claim any right of tenancy towards the property admeasuring 43,000 sq mtrs.
In return, the first party has agreed not to seek the demolition of a structure bearing house No. 100/1 constructed by the second party in the area of 6,000 sq mtrs.
Leading Hotels, which now owns the Tiracol land agreed to sell to the second party an area of 6,000 sq mtrs in survey No. 6/1 of the village. The second party would now be full-fledged owners of the land and not just ‘erroneous tenants/mundkars’ as they would be before the sale deed was signed.
It is not known whether other similar agreements of sale have been signed with other residents of Tiracol village.
“On looking at the above sequence of events it appears that there is definitely more than what meets the eye,” Jacques said in his report.
