The Directorate of Education (DoE) has decided to make Aadhaar card mandatory in schools across the State during admissions from the academic year 2017-18, mainly for availing of the various schemes including mid-day meals and scholarships, etc.
Following this decision, vide a circular, the DoE has asked the heads of all the educational institutions within its jurisdiction to give relevant instructions to the students at the time of declaring the annual results, so that they get the details of Aadhaar card at the time of admissions.
The circular issued by DoE on April 18 has stated: “The use of Aadhaar as an identity document for delivery of services or benefits or subsidies, simplifies the government delivery process, brings in transparency and efficiency, and enables beneficiaries to get entitlements directly to them in a convenient and seamless manner.”
The circular has also stated that the DoE has taken all the necessary measures in coordination with UIDAI to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment of students. Additionally, the notifications issued by Department of School Education and Literacy stipulate that any individual desirous of availing the benefit under various schemes at the school level, who do not possess an Aadhaar number or has not enrolled for Aadhaar, shall have to apply for enrolment immediately.
“For updating the data bank in respect of all the students in the schools under the jurisdiction of this Directorate, heads of institutions are requested to give relevant instructions at the time of declaring annual results so that the students shall bring the details of their Aadhaar Card on the re-opening of school for the academic year 2017-18”, read the circular.
