The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday demanded a complete waiver of allegedly inflated electricity bills issued to consumers across Goa. The party said verbal assurances from the government were not enough and called for an official notification granting relief to be issued immediately.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Vice-President Manuel Cardozo, Youth Wing President Pujan Malvankar and OBC Wing President Sandeep Pednekar said residents in several parts of Bardez were struggling with unusually high power bills and growing financial pressure.

The leaders said they recently visited Calangute, Siolim and Mapusa, where they met consumers who complained of receiving unusually high electricity bills despite normal power usage.

“The government cannot rely on assurances while people continue to receive inflated bills. Consumers need immediate relief and clear information,” the leaders said.

Criticising Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar, AAP said he should move beyond statements and issue an official notification waiving the excessive bills and penalties imposed on consumers.

The party alleged that many households were finding it difficult to pay the revised bills and feared disconnection if the issue was not resolved.

AAP said its agitation would continue until the government formally announces a waiver and provides relief to affected consumers.

The party also urged the Electricity Department to investigate complaints of abnormal billing and ensure that consumers are not unfairly affected by alleged billing errors.

The demand comes amid growing concern over electricity bills received by consumers in several parts of the state, with opposition parties calling for immediate government intervention.
