The road being developed from Supachipud-Harvalem to the Sanquelim Hospital Junction includes an integrated utility duct system. Separate ducts have been provided for electricity, water supply, sewage, internet and other cables. As a result, there will be no need to dig up the road for the next 30 years. If similar roads are developed across the state, government expenditure on repairs and maintenance will be reduced, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant inspected the ongoing road widening and concreting work between Supachipud-Harvalem and the Sanquelim Hospital Junction. Engineers from the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, officials from various departments and other concerned personnel were present during the inspection.
Development works under the Sanquelim Master Plan are underway, with nearly 80 per cent of the work completed. The approximately three-kilometre stretch from Supachipud to Sanquelim Junction is being developed at a cost of around Rs 31 crore. The four-lane road is expected to improve traffic flow in the area, the Chief Minister said.
Work on laying pipelines for the sewerage project in Sanquelim town is underway. Once completed, all roads will be restored to their original condition. To address traffic congestion in the town, plans are being made to construct a bypass road connecting Carapur Tisk and Honda. The alignment of the road will be finalised after examining the provisions of the Regional Development Plan. Upon completion, the project is expected to improve traffic management in Sanquelim, the Chief Minister said.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister issued instructions to officials and contractors. He said quality standards must be maintained while constructing roads across Goa. Referring to the road developed for the F-4 corridor at Mopa, he said similar standards should be followed for this and other road projects in the state.
