The Director of Vigilance, Anti-Corruption Branch has initiated a probe into a complaint lodged by a resident of Cuncolim stating that he was not paid subsidy under the Government of India’s Swarn Jayanthi Shahari Rojgar Yojna (SJSRY) scheme for the urban poor.

Since the scheme was administered by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and the Cuncolim Municipal Council, the ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sucheta B Desai has asked the Director of Municipal Administration to obtain a report from the Cuncolim Municipal Council. After obtaining the report from the Cuncolim Municipal Council, the DMA has been told to forward the same to the Vigilance office along with comments within two weeks on receipt of the latter so as to enable the investigating agency to place the same before the competent authority for action.

The complainant, Rehaman Khan alleged that he had availed term loan of Rs 1.45 lakh through the Cuncolim branch of a nationalised bank on September 4, 2014 under the Government of India’s Swarn Jayanthi Shahari Rojgar Yojana for the urban poor to purchase a rickshaw.

Saying that the subsidy scheme is meant for the upliftment of people from poverty, the complainant alleged there is still no sign of the subsidy amount, which the two offices were responsible to release to the bank, from where the loan was released. “Nobody in the Cuncolim Municipal Council is giving any information and it appears the subsidy has been diverted to some other beneficiary. Even four years later, I am still helpless and my interest component is growing,” Rehaman told the Vigilance, with a plea to trace the subsidy with interest from those involved in denying him his rightful dues.
