Accused in Porvorim assault arrested

MAPUSA: The two accused involved in assaulting a Porvorim lawyer were arrested on Friday by the Porvorim Police and the Innova car used in the crime was also seized.

The accused, Deepak Arondekar, and his accomplice, Balchandra Prabhudessai were apprehended on NH-17 at around 3 pm along with the car (GA-030N-5270) that was used in the crime.

According to Porvorim Police, Deepak Arondekar of Aaradi, Socorro was involved in other criminal cases registered in Mapusa and Saligao police stations. He was also arrested three times under the preventive section 151 CrPC at Porvorim, police informed.

The accused also has two non-bailable warrants pending against him, police said.

It may be recalled that advocate, Benedict Nazareth, was assaulted on Wednesday night at Arrarim, when he was on his way home.

The two accused blocked his car and assaulted him with beer bottles and also damaged his car, police informed.

The victim sustained head injuries even as the accused went into hiding after committing the crime, police said.

The accused has been arrested under section 341, 324, 504, 506 (ii), 427 r/w 34 of IPC.

A police team led by PSI, Sajjid Pillai and Raghoba Kamath under the supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi conducted the operation which led them to the accused. Further investigation is on.
