Claiming that investigations into the forged residential certificates case detected by the Salcete Sub Registrar earlier this month has come to a halt, social activist Sanjeev Raiturkar has threatened to knock the doors of the High Court to force the men-in-uniform to bring the guilty to book.
Addressing the media Raiturkar said though the Salcete Sub-Registrar Suraj Vernekar had detected around five cases of forged residence certificates which were used for the purpose of registration of marriage, the police action has been somewhat slow in the case.
Citing political pressure on the men-in-uniform, Sanjeev said he will be left with no option than to approach the High Court seeking directions to the Fatorda police to expedite and take the investigations to its logical conclusion.
Saying he has submitted a memorandum to the South Goa district Superintendent of Police, Sunita Sawant drawing her attention to the slow pace of investigations into the forged residence certificates, Sanjeey said he would wait for a week for the police to take action.
“I have drawn attention of the district police chief to the complaint filed by the Deputy Collector (Revenue) on March 7, 2024 to the Police Inspector of the Fatorda Police Station stating he was in receipt of letter dated 7/3/2024 from the Civil Registrar-Cum-Sub Registrar Margao that there were false residence certificates being issued purportedly by the Mamlatdar of Salcete for the purpose of marriage certificates. However, upon verification it was found that the certificates were fake and not issued by the Mamlatdar but were created by an online service centre,” he said.
