Benaulim-based activist Santan Pereira on Saturday said that the government should either look out for an alternate place to set up the proposed Benaulim health centre or upgrade the existing health facilities to take care of the patients.
He informed that the land in question, which was donated to Provedoria for the benefit of the poor should be preserved for its intended objective. Saying the land in question is a low-lying area, he said the government should look out for an alternate land to house the health centre.
Suspecting foul play, Santan demanded to know why the tenants who have their structures around the place were not informed of the proposed demarcation. “When the official, who had come for the demarcation was confronted by the people why no correspondence was made to the tenants in respect of the demarcation, he produced as many as 20 letters saying the post man could not deliver the letters on the addresses. Our people told the official that such as a thing has happened for the first time”, Santan said, while saying that local MLA Churchill Alemao is trying to bulldoze with the health centre.
He further demanded to know when why the government is eying on the Provedoria land admeasuring 7000 square metres when private hospitals have come up on land admeasuring 500 square meters in the cities.
