MMC polls: Citizens Choice Panel vows to expedite legacy dump clearing

MARGAO
Asserting that Sonsodo has been converted into a ‘hen that lays the golden eggs’, the Citizens Choice Panel for MMC, which has fielded 11 candidates for the ensuing Margao Municipal election, has committed to expedite the process of clearing the legacy dump with efficient management and processing of day-to-day waste.

Addressing the media, the Citizens Choice Panel for MMC, an association of three NGOs, Shadow Council for Margao, Goa with Love and Citizens for Sonsodo has promised to work out an effective system for segregated waste collection (including glass materials).

Releasing the manifesto in the presence of Citizens for Sonsodo Roque Mascarenhas, Goa with Love Orlando Pacheco, Gerson Gomes and others, former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the citizens panel will work for the immediate shifting of the mess created by the baling operations at the old fish market.

The manifesto promises to fight for the immediate completion of multi-level parking facility at Old Fish Market and set up, allot, construct free parking and pay parking areas to de-congest the city.

The panel has also promised to tackle the stray dog and stray cattle issue and relieve the public from the hardships faced by setting up facilities such as cattle pounds.

The panel has assured to fight for the immediate completion of the Ring Road which will streamline traffic movement and ease traffic congestion within the city and work for the permanent rehabilitation of displaced gadda owners pending for last several years.

Coutinho said the panel will not increase the house tax in the next five years, saying the group will bring other sources under the tax net.

Provision for decent and hygienic public toilets; revival of the pending twin projects of restoration of heritage Camra Building and late Dr Francisco Luis Gomes House (preservation of historical places); plan to modernise the Municipal markets by taking all the stakeholders in confidence; cycle tracks at Fatorda and Margao and implementation of common cadre for Municipal office staff are some of the important points on the manifesto.
