At the public meeting convened at the Santa Cruz church square on Sunday, the speakers lambasted the panchas and the MLA for not making their presence felt with calls being made to boycott these politicians.
“The people are forced to organize such meetings to save the village from being destroyed because these politicians are not there to support the people’s cause,” thundered activist Sudip Dalvi who then gave a clarion call to the people to boycott them in their bad and good times so that they become aware that they are elected to save the interests of the village and the villagers.
Local activist Arturo D’Souza, the force behind the agitation, also called upon the people to make the Bondvoll Lake an issue in the upcoming panchayat elections.
“Teach a lesson to the panchas who are not supporting the cause of the Bondvoll Lake and see to it that not a single panch from the current lot gets re-elected,” D’Souza urged.
Activist and historian Prajal Sakhardande said if everybody gets united, Bondvoll Lake will be restored.
“It is the strength of the unity,” he opined while stating that the villagers should constitute the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) and record the people’s management register to include every aspect of Santa Cruz like its heritage and biodiversity, which has to be registered and notified.
