During this same period, they claimed that 12 patients undergoing dialysis services at CHC Canacona had passed away.
They also said there are a number of patients from Canacona who are obtaining dialysis treatment either in private and other hospitals elsewhere in the State.
According to Shubham, there are 114 patients obtaining dialysis at CHC Canacona, and 70% of these patients are either from the ST community living in interior areas such as Gaondongrim and other villages, or from the fishing community living along the coastal belt.
“Given this situation, our demand is to make the kidney unit a separate unit at the CHC, so that dialysis patients do not get harassed or inconvenienced. The CHC Health Officer informed us that a proposal has been submitted to the government for requirement of three such units,” said Shubham.
He thanked the government for the initiative taken to examine family members of dialysis patients in Canacona.
“We also request the government to conduct a study as to why and how these renal failure cases are rampant more among people living in hilly terrains and along the coastal belt as 70% of dialysis patients come from these areas,” said Shubham.
He also suggested holding awareness campaigns particularly amongst those residing in these areas.
“We appeal to the government to make arrangements to post a full-time nephrologist at the Canacona CHC so that people get proper service and facilities,” he added.
