VASCO
Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Vice Chairman Rajendra Talak on Friday stated that film festivals, screenings and film-related activities would be showcased in Vasco and in other parts of the State through the year.
Talak was speaking to reporters along the sidelines of the inaugural function of the Women’s Day Marathi Film Festival at 1930 mall in Vasco, which was organised in association with ESG.
This festival, known as the The Sumitra Bhave Film Festival, is dedicated to women-oriented Marathi films. Filmmaker Sumitra Bhave, Director Sunil Suktannkar and noted actor Dr Mohan Agashe were present at the inaugural function.
This festival has been organised on the occasion of International Womens’s Day and in the honour of Late Mandatai Nana Bandekar. Award-winning Marathi movies will be screened at K Sera Sera Miniplex at 1930 mall.
Talak further informed reporters that the Cinephile club in Panaji had around 300 members, with about 200 members turning up every Thursday before screening of movies.
“We are doing well in Panaji and our Cinephile club is very popular. We want to start this culture all over Goa. NRB and 1930 is supportive and we will begin with Vasco, before spreading this culture to other places like Margao, Sanvordem where we have Ravindra Bhavans and screening facilities are available,” said Talak.
“Whenever there are film festivals or events happening in Panjim, some part will be taken up and screened in Vasco. Various film-related activities will be taken up all through the year in Vasco and across Goa and this will be our target.”
“We don’t want activities of ESG to be restricted to Panaji but spread it across Goa and places like Vasco,” added Talak. Filmmaker Sumitra Bhave said she was pleased to be part of the Marathi women film festival and expressed happiness with the large women audience to watch Marathi movies in Goa. The Marathi movie ‘Devrai’ was screened on Friday, followed by ‘Samhita’ (March 10) and Doghi (March 11).
