Admission woes for ICSE students

PANAJI
Ambiguity with regard to exams, assessment and schedule for declaration of results for class X students of the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE) is giving rise to another dilemma for the students -- admission woes.

Students, particularly those seeking to switch to Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) affiliated to the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), are faced with difficulties as their results, even if they choose to not answer an examination and opt for internal assessment, are unlikely to be declared before July-August.

Some GBSHSE affiliated HSSs have already begun intake of the ICSE students in Class XI for the academic year 2021-22. However, the students find themselves unable to provide their class X scores as the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) had on Friday deferred exams and also announced students will have a choice to either be assessed on internal tests or to answer exams in the online mode.

A final decision is expected in the first week of June by the CISCE after reviewing the Covid situation.

Also if the students’ admission to class XI dilemma is to be overcome Goa’s Directorate of Education may have to tweak its recent notification finalising terms and vacations for the 2021-22 academic year which mandates the start on June 21 and end for April 30, 2022.
