A long-awaited lift, a facility sought for the past 25 years, has finally been inaugurated at the Government Office Complex at Sanguem.

The facility, which is crucial for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, was inaugurated by Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai in the presence of ZP member Rajashree Gaonkar, BJP Mandal President Subhash Velip, BDO Paritosh Desai, former Municipal Chairperson Sanjay Raikar and other dignitaries.

The three-storeyed building, which houses the Mamlatdar's office on the first floor, the BDO and other government offices on the second floor, and the Water Supply Department on the third floor, had made a provision for the installation of a lift right from the time of its construction.

The building also housed the Veterinary Department for over two decades before it was shifted to an independent office at Pajimol, Sanguem, earlier this year.

In the absence of a lift facility, visitors to the complex, particularly senior citizens and persons with disabilities, faced considerable difficulties in accessing the various government offices located on the upper floors without assistance.

The installation of the lift is expected to ease these difficulties and provide much-needed convenience to citizens visiting the government offices.

Speaking on the occasion, Phal Dessai said that the lift was a long-pending and essential necessity, and its installation had now been fulfilled. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to create essential infrastructure within Sanguem constituency.
