After Goa Forward, now Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three independent MLAs - Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte, Art & Culture Minister Govind Gaude and Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar have openly come out in support of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for the Panaji by-poll scheduled on August 23.
Addressing a press conference with Gaonkar and Gaude, Khaunte said, "We have come together just to express our support to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for the Panaji by-election. Panjimites have elected him time to time. They have given support base to a person who has reached a level where no other Goan has reached."
Stating that Parrikar is a visionary leader, Khaunte said, "He knows what he wants and how to do it. We have already seen his administrative and financial capabilities. He is the only person who is fit to be in the Chief Minister's position among the 40 of us."
Speaking further, Khaunte opined that a visionary leader is needed to take Goemkarponn forward.
"Congress confusion of leadership crisis still is not resolved. As a changed person, he has been able to understand the issues, understand the pulse of what a Goan needs and act accordingly. Even the issue of casinos which we were vociferous about has been taken care by outlining a policy. We are clear about moving out casinos from Mandovi," he said out and added, "The amendment to Tenancy Act has been reverted. There is clarity on nationalisation of rivers
and the role of the State
has been identified after deliberations."
Khaunte said, "Ever since Liberation, Parrikar is the only CM who has a personal connect with PM, President, Vice-President and the central cabinet. This government is very clear about its policies on secularism and communal harmony. And while doing this, the acceptance that Parrikar has among all the minorities, I don't think anyone else has it."
When asked why independent MLAs were not a part of the campaign, he said,
"If we are called we will go. Right now they are strong enough to handle the situation. We express our support out of love and affection for the CM."
