Discussing the issue in the Curti Khandepar gram sabha on Sunday, some villagers from Housing Board Colony at Curti sought to know from the panchayat members whether the sewerage department had sought No Objection Certificate from them to carry out work on STP. The panchayat said the department concerned has not approached them over the issue so far.
After discussion, some residents of Curti opposed the STP, alleging they were kept in the dark over the issue.
The gram sabha also discussed the issue of parking of trucks along the roadside in the panchayat jurisdiction and resolved to follow up the matter with Regional Transport Office.
Deputy Sarpanch Shailesh Shet told The Goan that few days back they had written a letter to the RTO asking to take action in the matter.
Since the last couple of years, the issue of parking of trucks is being discussed in the gram sabhas, but nothing conclusive has happened.
There are several transport offices in Curti Khandepar Panchayat jurisdiction and trucks are parked along the roadside near these offices.
The garbage issue was also discussed and the deputy sarpanch assured to tackle the menace. "We have approached the BDO in this regard and we hope to resolve the issue," Shet said.
The gram sabha presided by Deputy Sarpanch Shailesh Shet was attended by other panchas. Secretary Hidhayatulla Sheikh was also present.
It may be recalled that some villagers from Undir-Bandora had opposed the STP in their village and had forced the panchayat to revoke the NOC given to the sewerage dept.
After Undir, STP faces opposition in Curti too
Following in the footsteps of Undir-Bandora villagers, some residents of Curti-Khandepar have opposed the proposed Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in their area.
