Agonda decides to put dry waste collection in order

CANACONA

Agonda panchayat has decided to handover two bags to each household for collection of dry and e-waste in a bid to tackle the garbage issue.

At the Sunday gram sabha, members were informed that the solid waste management authority insisted on segregated garbage and Sarpanch Pramod Phaldessai requested residents to cooperate with the local body to tackle the menace before it takes an alarming turn. Solid waste management authority in-charge officer for Canacona Sima Raman explained how the authority will assist the village in tackling garbage.

Meanwhile, till the finalisation of the garbage management site, a temporary shed is being erected behind the panchayat building and a bailing machine will also be in place soon after government finances the same.

The dry and e-waste collected from residents will be segregated further by the panchayat at the temporary shed before solid waste management authority takes these away, the sarpanch informed.

The gram sabha members also took up developmental issues. They informed that 14 PWD works which have been tendered were pending for want of financial approval. The tendering of Dhavalkhazan road and finalisation of Dhavalkhazan bridge tendering process are also awaited and the works are expected to be executed before the upcoming tourist season. Members also raised the issue of open defecation by migrants staying in premises rented out by locals and asked the panchayat body to act against both. Panchayat Secretary informed that those people letting out their places should compulsorily fill Form C.

The gram sabha also took up the issue of misuse of Mudkud river for washing of clothes and other material on commercial basis. “We have already issued warning in this regard. If this goes on, we will lodge police complaints,” the sarpanch assured.

Deputy Sarpanch Abel Borges and four panchas did not attend the gram sabha. Panchas Badal Naikgaunkar and Mandira Velip and BDO Priya Gaonkar were present.
