Agonda Gram Sabha witnesses outpour of complaints & concerns

CANACONA

Members of the Agonda Gram Sabha expressed their dissatisfaction over the non-implementation and resolution of various complaints and grievances during a session held on Sunday. The Gram Sabha saw villagers getting increasingly agitated as they felt compelled to repeat their concerns in every gathering.

While appreciating the panchayat for executing a few long-pending developmental works, members criticized the body for its failure to address and resolve numerous complaints and demands. The issues ranged from insufficient water supply and untreated water to erratic power supply, potholed roads, the need for speed breakers, and clearance of roadside bushes and trees affecting motorists’ visibility.

Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes, along with Panchayat Secretary Amol Naikgaunkar, responded promptly to the various demands raised by the people. The Gram Sabha was attended by all seven members of the Agonda panchayat, including Deputy Sarpanch Canisha Fernandes, with an observer deputed by the Block Development Officer overseeing the proceedings.

Several villagers, including Ganpat Desai, Honorat Fernandes, Kiran Naikgaonkar, Kisan Desai, and Nandkishore Phaldessai, voiced their concerns and raised queries related to water quality, road safety, and other community issues. Ganpat Desai highlighted the contamination of water supply, emphasizing the need for protective measures for the well and proper water treatment.

Marcus Fernandes suggested additional measures for water treatment, including the protection of the well, cleaning of storage tanks, and the installation of suitable filters.
