Seraulim meet questions implementation of resolutions by panchayat

MARGAO

Uproar marked the Gram Sabha of the village panchayat of Seraulim on Sunday after members objected to the meeting on grounds that the Panchayat body does not take follow-up action on the decisions taken at the meeting.

Left with no option, the Gram Sabha was adjourned without transacting any business on the agenda.

When the meeting was called to order by Sarpanch Seema Shanke, members raised questions to the Chair about how the decisions taken at the Gram Sabha are not discussed and ratified at the panchayat body meeting.

The members pointed out that the minutes of the Gram Sabha meetings are not placed at the meetings of the Panchayat body, as a result of which there is no follow-up action on the decisions taken at the gram sabha meetings.

After the Sarpanch adjourned the gram sabha, one of the members later told the media that the Panchayat body has not taken action against the illegal fish vending along the roadside in the village, besides action on land-filling complaints.

“What is the use of the Gram Sabha meetings adopting resolutions when the Panchayat body does not follow up and implement the resolutions,” the member questioned.
