Aldona MLA, Glenn Ticlo on Thursday said the State government should cap the price of RT-PCR tests conducted in all private laboratories in the State.
“In government hospitals the price for an RT-PCR test is Rs 1,100 but private hospitals are charging almost Rs 2000 plus. I think capping of the price has to be done because the tourists coming to Goa find the rates exorbitant,” Ticlo said.
He said many of the tourists who come down to Goa find the Covid test rates in private laboratories very steep compared to other States.
He further said that the tourists were a little apprehensive to conduct the tests in government facilities.
“I think there has to be capping where the price should be brought down. I will speak to the CM to make things a little affordable for the tourists who come to Goa,” he said.
Several States have capped the price of RT-PCR tests in private laboratories.
While the Delhi government has capped the price at Rs 800, the government of Uttar Pradesh has capped the rate at Rs 700.
