In a massive drive conducted by the Department of Legal Metrology in Sanguem taluka goods worth Rs 8.5 lakh were seized for violation of provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 read with Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) Rules 2011.
In the instant raid, the team from Department of Legal Metrology confiscated 16176 packages of soft drink not bearing the name and complete address of manufacturer in case of complaints.
A press note issued by the Department of Legal Metrology states that under the provisions of Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules it is mandatory for the products to bear complete details of name of manufacturer, importer and packer beside mentioning the common generic name, country of origin, month and year of manufacturing, maximum retail price besides other details.
The customers should check for these details before buying the goods and bring to the notice of the department of Metrology for any anamolies, states the press release.
The raiding team was led by Inspector of Legal Metrology Sanguem Vikas Khandolkar under the supervision of Nitin Purushan, Asst Controller Legal Metrology, Ranjan Borkar and assisted by Samir Khanapurkar and Pascoal Vaz
