The unfolding political developments in the State seem to have brought divisions in the Nationalist Congress Party camp to the fore.  
Even as party president Jose Philip D’Souza along with other leaders pitched for dissolution of the Assembly in the wake of developments, NCP’s lone MLA representing Benaulim, Churchill Alemao slammed the State party leadership for raising the Assembly dissolution issue, saying there are some leaders in the state who raise their heads only during election time.  
“Who are these leaders who are demanding dissolution,” Churchill demanded to know, reminding that he is the lone MLA representing NCP in Goa.  
Saying that he is not bound to go by what the State leaders say, Churchill however said he has briefed NCP national general secretary Prafulla Patel on the situation and will go by the decision of party supremo Sharad Pawar.  
Asserting that dissolution of the Legislative Assembly is not the answer, Churchill pointed out that the people of Goa have given a mandate for five years. “In a democratic set up,
you have to respect the sentiments of the people. Just because someone is not a member of the Assembly, he cannot insist on dissolution,” Churchill asserted.  
“Some of these people who are favouring dissolution have not received the mandate of the people for a long time. Maybe they hope to make it into the Assembly in the event the House is dissolved,” he added.  
When questioned why he did not take NCP State president Jose Philip D’Souza into confidence before airing his views, Churchill claimed that he had discussed the issue with D’Souza and had in fact decided to call on the Governor with a plea not to dissolve the House. “However, I came to know via the media that Jose Philip along with Avinash Bhonsle went to the public with the demand for dissolution,” he added.
