Alina takes swipe at Mauvin for U-turn on Special Status

CORTALIM

Taking a swipe at Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho for his statement in the House on Thursday that 'Special Status' for Goa was not possible, Cortalim MLA and RDA Minister Alina Saldanha sought to know what had made Godinho change his line of thought suddenly.

Speaking to The Goan, Saldanha said: “I remember Godinho giving a long speech when the House was debating on the Special Status for Goa, that Special Status was needed to save Goa's land, culture and language under Art 371 of the Constitution and today, the same Godinho has made a U-turn on the issue.”

Stating that special status is an issue of the people of Goa and the government will deliver at the right time, Saldanha recalled that her husband late Matanhy Saldanha was championing their cause.

On the issue of Kala Bhavan at Sancoale which also touched upon by Godinho, Saldanha asked as to what had stopped Godinho from completing the project during his tenure when he had the funds at his disposal.

“Being the local MLA, I have not neglected Kala Bhavan, but I have other priorities also and the Bhavan will also be taken up after completing the formalities,” Saldanha maintained.
